Australian woman dies from septicaemia in Fiji

The husband of a young Sydney woman who died in Fiji has spoken of her final hours, during which he attempted to reassure her and told her he loved her.

She was placed into an induced coma and was reportedly in a very unstable condition.

"I told her I loved her, we're going to get out of here, everything's going to be okay", Clarke has told media.

The report says it was initially suspected that she had contracted typhoid, however blood tests revealed that the disease was not the cause of her death.

The 24-year-old's mother Karen told 7 News her daughter was a "beautiful, caring, kind and loving person".

Clarke's sister started a GoFundMe page when her sister was first admitted to the hospital, asking for monetary help to bring Clarke home to be treated.

Her husband, Chase Clarke, told Fairfax she was 'outspoken, smart, courageous, and had the biggest heart'.

Fijian authorities will conduct an autopsy on Clarke's body.

On Facebook, her brother Murray Shaw wrote "she went into cardiac arrest 5 times in the last hour and the medivac team didnt make it in time".

The couple Wednesday in April and were in Fiji for their honeymoon and also to attend Mr Clarke's best friend's wedding.

"We're both petrified of sharks but we went scuba diving and kayaking over open water and had a turtle come right up to us", he said.

Mrs Clarke grew up in Killarney Heights and worked for years at the Kirribilli Club for years, where the couple celebrated their wedding in April.

Clarke said the family is waiting for approval to transport her body back to Australia.

"The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is providing consular assistance, in accordance with the Consular Services Charter, to the family of an Australian woman who passed away in Fiji", a spokeswoman said.
