Airtel to launch 4G smartphone at Rs 1399 by Diwali

Karbonn A40 Indian is a 4G smartphone that supports dual SIM slot. Airtel, in a press statement revealed that it plans to collaborate with more mobile handset manufacturers as part of its "Mera Pehla 4G Smartphone" initiative, to bring in new affordable 4G Android devices to the market.

Airtel notes that while the Karbonn A40 Indian normally costs Rs 3,499 it will be offering the 4G smartphone effectively at the price of a feature phone by bringing a tariff plan into the mix. A user has to make recharges for 36 months, and after 18 months, the company will repay INR 500 and the company will refund remaining INR 1000 rupees after the cycle of 36 months.

After 18 months, they will get a refund of Rs. 500, and another Rs. 1,000 after 36 months: a net reduction of Rs. 1,500.

Customers, who do not wish to take the Rs169 bundled plan, can opt for recharges of any denomination and validity as per individual requirements.

State-run telecom operator BSNL earlier this week revealed plans to partner with handset companies to launch affordable phones bundled with data benefits from the telco. Coming with the 4G VoLTE connectivity, the Karbonn A40 Indian has a quad-core processor, possibly from MediaTek and along with that is 1GB of RAM and 8GB internal storage. It ships with a 1400 mAh battery which Karbonn claims can offer standby time of 200 hours and talk-time of up to 4 hours.
