The Allahabad High Court on Thursday acquitted Rajesh and Nupur Talwar in the murder of their teenage daughter Aarushi and their domestic help Hemraj in 2008, saying they could not be held guilty on the basis of the evidence on record.
The CBI court while pronouncing its verdict had said that there is no direct evidence in the Aarushi Talwar murder case but it is clear that the prosecution has placed a clinching wealth of circumstances from which the guilt of both the accused has been made out to the extent human instruments can apprehend'. A day later, the body of the servant, Hemraj, was found on the roof of the house.
A CBI court had in 2013 sentenced the Talwars to life imprisonment for murdering their 14-year-daughter Aarushi. Post the verdict, Nupur and Rajesh Talwar have been serving their sentence in Ghaziabad's Dasna jail. Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to issue a statement in this regard shortly.
Pinaki Misra, another defence counsel, said the CBI court judgment was "absolutely perverse and the High Court has set it aside correctly".
