Jones - dubbed the "White Widow" - was known to be a recruiter and propagandist for IS.

It emerged last night that jihadi Sally Jones, known as the White Widow, died in a U.S. drone strike on the border of Syria and Iraq.

Former punk musician Jones was born in Greenwich, south-east London and lived in Kent.

However, she - and possibly her son - were actually killed in June during an air-strike by a US Air Force Predator, The Sun reported.

United States intelligence forces have admitted they are not certain Jones was killed as it is impossible to retrieve DNA evidence.

The newspaper said the blast was kept secret by the Central Intelligence Agency over concerns Jones' twelve year old son, Jojo, may have also been killed in the incident.

Along with husband Junaid Hussain - who was killed in 2015 fighting for ISIS - Jones went to Syria in 2013 after converting.

"She added: "(Jones) was crying and wants to get back to Britain but ISIS is preventing her because she is now a military wife.

Before fleeing to Syria, computer hacker Hussain admitted publishing Tony Blair's address in 2011 and was jailed for six months after making hoax calls to a United Kingdom counter-terror hotline a year later.

At the time of his death, the 21-year-old from Birmingham had allegedly been planning "barbaric attacks against the West", including terror plots targeting "high profile public commemorations".

She was active as an online recruiter and sometimes posted propaganda messages on social media, including a striking photograph of herself dressed as a nun pointing a gun towards the camera.
