Just having best development ideas not enough: Prime Minister Modi


Modi was speaking in New Delhi at the birth centenary celebrations of Nanaji Deshmukh. He said solutions for sustainable development in rural India can not be force-fed from the outside but would have to be developed taking into account the needs of the people.

The prime minister said schemes should be implemented without diluting the spirit behind it. Jayaprakash Narayan later recalled the incident saying, "if Nanaji Deshmukh had not physically intervened, receiving" the blow "aimed at me, I would have been a dead man".

The audience was drawn from among representatives of self-help groups, panchayats, water conservation innovators and beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.

Today is also the birth anniversary of Jai Prakash Narayan.

He also launched Gram Samvaad - a citizen centric mobile app to serve and empower the rural citizens of India, by facilitating single window access for citizens to information at Gram Panchayat level, on various Rural Development programs. This app is part of the movement to build a new India by 2022. He followed JP and preferred to devote himself to rural development. He was also the founder of Deendayal Research Institute at Chitrakoot.
