Pakistan's election body seeks arrest of Imran Khan on contempt charges

Minister for Privatization Daniyal Aziz has said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan is a proclaimed offender in a case of terrorism, but is not being arrested.

Pakistan's election commission is seeking the arrest of the country's top opposition leader, cricket-star-turned-politician Imran Khan, on contempt charges.

According to PTI Spokesperson Naeemul Haq, the party is set to challenge the warrants in the Islamabad High Court (IHC), reported Pakistan media.

This is the second launch this week for SpaceX , after it competed its Iridium-3 mission on Monday morning. SpaceX is planning to launch a Falcon 9 rocket Wednesday night from Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

The chief election commissioner, heading a five-member bench, ordered to produce the PTI chief before the court after arrest in the next hearing fixed for Oct 26.

At the last hearing, on September 27, the ECP had adjourned the case until the Islamabad High Court (IHC) decides on the party's petition regarding the proceedings. Following the submission of the apology, the case should have been decided, he further said.

In his written reply during last hearing on Monday, Imran Khan said that he had filed an apology through his lawyer Saqlain Haider, adding that he had never opposed the apology. The ECP had directed Khan to submit his reply by September 25.

Both deadlines have been included in a formal demand sent to the Catalan government. The legal validity of the declaration was unclear.

The ECP had issued the contempt notice to Khan on January 24 over his "scandalous remarks" about the commission.

Hearing his arguments, the bench had reserved its verdict in the case.

Babar Awan assured the court that the PTI chairman would reply to the ECP's show-cause notice with regards to contempt proceedings against him.

Akbar Babar, who is also a petitioner in the foreign funding case against the PTI leadership, had moved the election body after Khan accused it of being biased in the funding case.
