Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, an American singer of Mexican descent, was remembered by her fans Tuesday as October 17 marked the day when her self-titled official debut album was released in 1989.

According to a 1995 New York Times report on Saldivar's conviction, the "jury here in Houston took less than two and a half hours to convict the defendant, Yolanda Saldivar, apparently rejecting the contention of her lawyers that the gun that killed Selena, who was 23, had gone off accidentally and that Ms. Saldivar had really meant to kill herself".

Born on April 16, 1971, in Lake Jackson, Texas, Selena became the lead singer of her family's band, Selena Y Los Dinos, at the age of 10.

The Google doodle on Selena is animated to the tune of her popular "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom" song.

Google has unveiled a 90-second animated Doodle of Quintanilla-who released music mononymously as Selena-singing her 1994 hit. Selena sang, her brother A.B. played bass and her sister Suzette was on drums. In 1993, she won the Grammy Award for her album Live, in the best Mexican-American album category.

She had six albums in total; the last, which was released after her death, became her first No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
