North Korea spoke of the possibility of a "nuclear war"

North Korea's deputy UN Ambassador Kim In-ryong said his country's nuclear and missile arsenal is "a precious strategic asset that can not be bartered for anything" and that it would never give up those weapon unless the United States abandons its "hostile policy and nuclear threat" against Pyongyang.

Mr. Kim, in his address, said that North Korea is the only country in the world that has been subjected to "such an extreme and direct nuclear threat" from the USA since the 1970's.

He stated that their military exercises involve using nuclear assets and also suggested that the planned removal of their "supreme leadership" by the USA was more unsafe than a nuclear war.

He warned that "the entire continental territory of the United States is in the reach of our fire" and that if the U.S. undertake an invasion, "they will not be able to escape our strict punishment anywhere in the world".

The United States is not ruling out the eventual possibility of direct talks with North Korea, Deputy Secretary of State John J. Sullivan said on Tuesday, hours after Pyongyang warned nuclear war might break out at any moment. "History shows proof that we should protect ourselves on our own and our nuclear programs - are the programs of nuclear deterrence aimed at the protection of our independence", An Tong Chun, the first deputy speaker of the country's Parliament, said Sunday.

The tension between the two nuclear power countries have intensified as North Korea continues to develop and threaten the use of its nuclear weapons. But not before the USA renounces its nuclear arsenal.
