Opposition protests against Kenya's Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) are to resume on Tuesday as the countdown to Thursday's presidential election re-run ticks louder and tensions escalate, Kenya's Daily Nation reported.

Despite a successful petition, Raila Odinga has withdrawn his candidature from the repeat election, saying it was the only way he could ensure a credible election is held.

But the election board said it had addressed many of his complaints.

The government has also given assurances that all who turn out to vote will be protected, urging those who intend to boycott the Thursday election to do so respectfully.

Kenya held the first round of elections on August 8 this year, but in a historic ruling, the Supreme Court nullified the result of the poll, that had declared incumbent President, Uhuru Kenyata the victor.
