In 3DMark's Time Spy benchmark, the 2700U-powered machine racked up an impressive score of 915 compared to 350 for Intel's Core i7-8550U in an Acer Swift 3, an impressive looking victory for the AMD chip.

Sandwiched between those two games is a Champions League tie with Benfica. "We saw the game they played with Real Madrid and they were not worse than them.
As you'd expect, AMD is promising massive performance and efficiency increases versus its own seventh-generation Bristol Ridge APUs, but of course the main competition will be from Intel. And its Vega graphics processing engine is good for AMD, but still lags Nvidia - but I suspect as part of an integrated system will outperform Intel's, especially for entry-level VR or undemanding games (we'll have to test to see). AMD also shows performance leads over Intel in POVRay, PCMark 10 and TrueCrypt, but not in PassMark.

The strong debut of the Ryzen CPU range has helped AMD post one of its strongest financial performances in some time. Moreover, 4K streaming is supported by Amazon, Vudu and Netflix. To that end, the company is unveiling its first two laptop processors from the Ryzen line: the Ryzen 5 2500U and the Ryzen 7 2700U, designed for ultrathin laptops. The CPU portion has a base frequency of 2.2GHz and peak boost clock of 3.8GHz, while the GPU runs at up to 1,300MHz. Notably, AMD is not publicising base clock speeds, which are 2.2GHz and 2.0GHz respectively. Both offer four cores and eight threads: the Ryzen 5 2500U runs at a standard 2GHz, but can boost up to wind-in-the-hair 3.6GHz; the Ryzen 7 2700U, meanwhile, runs at a standard 2.2GHz and can boost to 3.8GHz, as the mood takes it. In these new mobile chips, it services not just the CPU and GPU, but the multimedia engine, the I/O, the display engine, and the DDR4 memory controllers too, allowing for efficient control of and communication between all elements. While the company has not announced any major changes to the underlying design of these CPUs, the Ryzen Mobile family leverages what AMD calls Precision Boost 2, which is an update to the original Precision Boost feature in previous Ryzen models. AMD also expects that premium notebooks featuring the new chip will be made available within the first quarter of 2018. It allows CPU cores to adjust their speeds dynamically in small increments depending on the current workload as well as speed and power conditions.
