Women's Cross Country Concludes Season at NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals


Lucki's seventh place finish is the best finish ever on record for a Maryland runner at the event, as her time of 20:16.3 shaved almost 30 seconds off her finish on the course at the Paul Short Invitational in September.

"Technically in the men's race, we just missed (qualifying) in the first mile, or 1,500 meters".

The Oklahoma women's and men's cross country teams finished 13th and 14th.

Tonga stun New Zealand to top Pool B
New Zealand have looked impressive so far and should have plenty of confidence heading into this after a couple of crushing wins. It was a vintage first half display from the Kiwis , with Johnson's conversion giving them a 16-2 lead at the break.

"I was most proud of Todd", coach Jon Murray said in the release. "We think we're the best team in the country, so we went to the front of today's race and ran like that".

The team won the event with 49 points, beating the No. 2 team in the nation, BYU, by 30 points.

The Cowboys totaled 74 points, just five behind Iowa State. "A lot of the teams that make the national meet are teams that are there year after year, and we're coming from a long way back trying to be one of those teams, and we got really, really close".

Garrett Bull finished 44th (32:11.6) and Northside graduate J.P. Brinyark placed 54th (32:26) to round out the top five scoring for Alabama.

The women will face a slightly larger 41-team field that includes nationally ranked Ole Miss and Georgia, as well as 17 regionally ranked programs that include Auburn, Florida State, Middle Tennessee, Southern Miss and Tennessee. Delaney Rasmussen crossed the line in 78th (21:46.9), Emily Roughan finished 88th (21:53.9), Kylie Goo came in 96th (22:03.2) and Pipi Eitel rounded things out in 115th (22:36.7). "Unfortunately with how the other regions played out, it wasn't enough to advance as a team, but we're extremely excited for Jaci to qualify and make it three years in a row we've had a female competing at the NCAA meet".

Junior Nicole Goecke placed 102nd in her first NCAA West Regional race in 21:39.4. The women's side will find out Saturday whether it receives an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships. "(She'll) be ready to battle anyone next week, but hopefully she has Tigers running with her".
