49ers Rumors: Jimmy Garoppolo's 1st Start Targeted for Week 12 vs. Seahawks

It wasn't a spectacular game, but one great play came in the second quarter, when San Francisco's C.J. Beathard looked like a true National Football League starting quarterback, delivering one of his three total TDs with an on-target bomb to Marquise Goodwin for an 83-yard score.

The Giants have not fired a coach during the season since 1976 when Bill Arnsparger was let go after a 0-7 start and replaced by John McVay, who had more success as an executive who helped build the 49ers dynasty in the 1980s.

The San Francisco 49ers finally got that much sought-after first victory of the season, and it only took playing a visiting one-win New York Giants team.

Michael O'Neill "could not be any prouder" of Northern Ireland players
To discuss whether it was a penalty or not, it's not interesting for us and in the end it was a decision by the referee. Northern Ireland had very few chances to score, with both of their decent ones coming at either end of the match.

Quarterback C.J. Beathard had his best outing in what figures to his fourth and final start before Jimmy Garoppolo takes his job, after next week's bye.

-Left tackle Joe Staley made his return to the starting lineup after missing just one game with a broken eye socket. Beathard threw a pair of touchdown passes in the second quarter, and he put the 49ers ahead 24-13 with an 11-yard touchdown run to open the fourth quarter. With the loss, the Giants dropped to 1-8 on the season and the 49ers improved to 1-9.

If at first you don't succeed, or, in this case, the first nine times, you may as well try and try again.

The 49ers took the lead over the Giants for the third time on Sunday when Beathard hit tight end Garrett Celek for a 47-yard touchdown near the end of the first half. Beathard had the 49ers in position to add more points on their first possession after halftime, but he had a screen pass intercepted by Olivier Vernon at the Giants' 25. A 33-yard touchdown run by running back Matt Breida gave the 49ers a 31-13 lead over the Giants.

-Defensive lineman Ronald Blair, in just his second game this season, recorded two sacks, including a strip-sack. That only cost the 49ers a timeout, however, as the Giants' series ended with a failed field-goal attempt from 34 yards. Eli Manning's best accomplishment? He had 17 carries for 98 yards.
