American Heart Association seeks knitters to make red baby hats

Completed hats must be mailed to American Heart Association, 190 Knox Abbott Drive, Cayce SC 29033.

The project helps spread awareness about congenital heart defects - which affect about 40,000 babies born in the country each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention - and heart disease. The hats are distributed to babies with and without heart defects. All babies born at participating hospitals during the month of February will receive a hat. "If it wasn't for the research and protocols put into place, my son may not have survived".

In collaboration with the Children's Heart Foundation and to celebrate American Heart Month, people are being asked to create infant-sized woolly hats.
