Choice is great, of course, but when each device has its own content platform, it's hard for developers to support all systems, paving the way for one platform to dominate. The company did note that the Vive Focus would be the "first commercial standalone device to deliver inside-out 6-degree-of-freedom tracking (6DoF)".

HTC is striving to prevent this scenario by offering a unified solution that supports a wide range of hardware. Therefore it seems likely that those companies intent to integrate Vive Wave into their hardware.

Meanwhile, devices should be updated to version 1.26.9393 and have Do Not Disturb off. Google does note that anyone, not just Voice Match users, can broadcast a message.

Instead, the unit intends to tread the lines between power, portability, and affordability, which puts it in competition with some recently announced Oculus headsets, in particular the Project Santa Cruz and more affordable Oculus Go.

HTC suggests that multiple computing platforms are supported by Wave, but clearly states that this VR platform is optimised for the Qualcomm Snapdragon mobile platform. At its Vive dev conference in Shanghai today, HTC announced the Vive Wave platform which pairs content development with syncing hardware partners behind their Viveport content store, which HTC is hoping to unify developers behind. HTC said that the no-hassle publishing system would support Viveport for PC VR and mobile VR content. The company said that it handed out 500 priority vouchers to developers who were present at VDC 2017.

HTC didn't reveal many new details about the device, but the company confirmed that it would feature a low-latency, high-resolution AMOLED screen. Other similar use cases include Second Life-like social platforms, or it can be something as simple as watching movies with friends in a virtual cinema - not an entirely new concept but now you can do so pretty much anywhere you want. No launch price or date has been announced, though developers can sign up for a development kit on HTC's Vive Focus page. Graylin only made it clear that there won't be a Daydream version of the Focus yet, as HTC is, ahem, "focusing on the Focus for China" for the remainder of this year. We'll have an update as soon as we hear back from HTC, and stay tuned for our upcoming hands-on later. It seems to me that we have been, all of these jurors, save one, has been deliberating since Monday. There is reason to think the divide among jurors is not going to be resolved tomorrow.
