IT services company says New Orleans project will create 2000 direct jobs

A technology firm will soon be headquartered in New Orleans with "good paying jobs in the $70,000 range", WAFB Capitol Correspondent Kevin Frey reported Monday morning.

Virginia-based DXC Technology Co (DXC.N) will develop the center to create digital services for its global clients, which total almost 6,000 across 70 countries, the company said in a statement. DXC serves almost 6,000 private and public sector clients in 70 countries, including major, multinational corporations and government agencies. Hilton said the facility planned for New Orleans will be the largest digital transformation center it has built.

Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards and New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu are holding a news conference in the city to announce a "significant economic development".

As part of the deal, the state of Louisiana will fund a $25 million higher education initiative to expand the number of degrees awarded annually in computer science, management, and science, technology, engineering and math, or STEM-related studies.

"This is an historic economic development achievement for our state", Edwards said. "This newly formed IT services company will create thousands of job opportunities for New Orleanians, adding to our rapidly growing digital economy".

The company will hire 300 workers by the end of 2018, according to the source.

"It will be a blueprint, I believe, of how we transform DXC's workforce and how we embrace some of the new technologies", Hilton said.

A majority of the DXC jobs are expected to be local hires.
