Messenger Day nixed as Facebook pushes Stories feature

Facebook also announced today that it's replacing its Messenger Day feature with Facebook Stories, allowing for cross posts between Messenger and the normal Facebook application.

Last year, Facebook introduced a Snapchat-like Stories feature to its Instagram app. Facebook Stories recently followed, but for users on the social network. Along with this change, Facebook is also killing private ephemeral messaging feature Direct. When something is posted to Stories, Facebook is going to automatically show it in Facebook Stories as well as on Messenger, a move it says will save its users time and effort.

Facebook described the change in a recent post under its Messenger account, saying that Messenger Day and Facebook Stories will be merged via a new "experience" it simply calls Stories.

Facebook is bringing a major overhaul in the Facebook Stories feature. "All you have to do is select from one of these audience settings on either Facebook or Messenger, and any changes you make from your existing audience settings will update across the other". "We're moving Stories to closer align to those connections that people have". While users of Facebook's low-data-usage version can view stories, they cannot contribute at present.

While Facebook is streamlining many facets of Stories, there is one thing it is adding: collaborative Stories for events.

The Stories feature on Facebook is about to get a whole lot less complicated - and a whole lot more useful.
