One developer claims that it is possible to obtain root access on the OnePlus phones without unlocking them.

If hackers wanted to get into your phone, they would need physical access to it, so if you have any OnePlus devices, just keep it away from any of your playful tech-savvy friends until the app is officially removed.

The application is called "EngineerMode" and was developed by Qualcomm for factory testing.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, Alderson said, "This loophole is a backdoor".

The main risk is that affected phones can be rooted without needing access to a bootloader which is a security problem if a person's OnePlus phone falls into nefarious hands. The developer further added that he will publish an application for rooting OnePlus devices without unlocking.

The inclusion of the app appears to be an oversight on the part of OnePlus, and company founder Carl Pei said the team is looking into it.
