Raiders' first-round pick Gareon Conley placed on IR

Conley had a strong game early in the season against the New York Jets, but hurt the shin and came out of the game against Washington the following week with a limp. Unfortunately, the team's pass defense remains a work in progress and first round pick Gareon Conley, a cornerback out of Ohio State, played in only 2 games before being shut down for the season.

Conley's injury was originally classified as "shin splints" by general manager Reggie McKenzie. "He was feeling better, then he had a setback".

Oakland's opponents have a 110.5 passer rating and have completed 71.2 percent of their passes, which both rank as the third highest in National Football League history.

Amerson's return would help the Raiders, however much that may be, with Oakland sitting just outside the AFC playoff picture. A four-game losing streak early in the year set Oakland back and now the Raiders have little margin for error. The Raiders also reinstated defensive tackle Darius Latham from the reserve/suspended list to take Conley's spot on the active roster.

Latham, a second-year defensive lineman from IN, was suspended four games by the NFL on October 9 for violating the league's substance-abuse policy.
