Less than one month after hoisting the World Series trophy as a member of the Astros, Carlos Beltran was the most recent candidate to interview for the position, submitting to the five-hour process with Cashman and a group of team executives on Wednesday at Yankee Stadium.

The Yankees general manager told reporters Friday morning that he sought A-Rod's guidance, but Rodriguez "never expressed interest" in being the next skipper.

Boone, 44, is taking over the Yankees with absolutely no manager or coaching experience, but he's known for being a very bright man and having tremendous communication skills.

Cashman also said the team is done interviewing candidates, meaning Jennifer Lopez's campaign to make her boyfriend the next Yankees manager - whether in jest or not - was all for naught.

A number of news outlets reported earlier Monday that Meulens and Boone were the finalists for one of the most enviable, and pressure-packed job, in baseball.

A few minutes later, the first reports came out that Boone landed the job.
