The December 2017 supermoon

According to NASA - that combination made the moon appear about 14 percent larger than it normally does.

The moon appears the biggest and brightest right around sunrise and sunset because of a "moon illusion" effect, when it's near the horizon and you're able to compare the moon to other objects for scale. The supermoon is a full moon that occurs when the moon is closest to the earth.

There will be another supermoon on January 31 which will also be a total lunar eclipse, and what is termed a Blue Moon as it is the second full moon in a month.
