Nokia 9 rumoured to launch alongside Nokia 8 (2018) on January 19


Amidst all the rumours, a new report coming from China reveals that HMD Global will be hosting an event to launch the Nokia 9 on Jan 19.

This report stating the launch date of Nokia 9 and Nokia 8 (2018) China launch comes from a Chinese website - MyDrivers, and it should be noted that HMD Global is yet to officially announce the announcement dates of the phones. The two smartphones will be customized for the Chinese market, meaning that Google services like the Play Store will be replaced by apps that meet local regulations.

The announcement came as part of a Computer Science Education Week kickoff event in San Mateo. This year's Computer Science Education Week started today and runs through December 10.

However, although 2017 launch looks nearly certain, Chinese media Mydrivers is confident that the Nokia 9 won't arrive this year.

Nokia 9 has been part of major leaks in the past and it was expected to arrive before the end of this year. The company has already rolled out Android Oreo update for its flagship smartphone Nokia 8 and also confirmed that soon Nokia 6 and 5 will also receive the update by the end of January 2018. The case also revealed that the handset will have finger print sensor and dual camera setup.

Though the company confirmed that all the Nokia smartphones launched this year including Nokia 8, Nokia 6, Nokia 5 and Nokia 3 will receive the Android Oreo update, the users of the entry-level Nokia 3 did not receive the Android 7.1.2 Nougat or the Android Oreo updates. The high-end variant with 128GB storage will be priced at CNY 4,199 (roughly Rs 40,826). The Nokia 9 is expected to sport a design similar to the China-exclusive Nokia 7 smartphone with unibody metal construction and glass back. It also adds that the company will also showcase the second generation Nokia 8 at the same event. It is also rumoured to offer IP67 water and dust resistance and miss out on the 3.5mm audio jack.

For the optics, we get a combination of 8-megapixel cameras on both front and back with f/2.0 aperture, 1.12-micron pixel size along with LED flash at the back and display flash at the front.
