Mueller Subpoenas Trump's Financial Records From A German Bank

Bloomberg reported Tuesday that Mueller issued a subpoena to Deutsche Bank for the information weeks ago.

"No subpoena has been issued or received", White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a briefing. "We have confirmed this with the bank and other sources", Dowd wrote in an email.

The heat on the investigation of President Trump's finances has just been cranked up even further.

A source close to Deutsche Bank said the bank had run checks on Trump's financial dealings with Russian Federation. The special counsel's mission - or at least its original mandate - was supposed to determine whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russian intelligence to hack the DNC and John Podesta, as well as coordinate a propaganda campaign during the election. The bank has worked with Trump since the 1990s, long before the tycoon chose to enter politics as a candidate.

It's hard to make comparisons to other investigations led by specially designated prosecutors or to draw conclusions about how much Mueller will ultimately spend.

Deutsche Bank has loaned the Trump organization an estimated $300 million for its real estate dealings prior to Donald Trump becoming president.

In May, five Democratic members of the House of Representatives sent a letter to Deutsche Bank CEO John Cryan asking the bank to turn in any records relating to Trump's accounts and any ties to Russian Federation. So when he set out to relaunch his empire, he turned to Deutsche Bank for the financing he couldn't find elsewhere. (The Department of Justice did not respond to a request for comment.) And during the campaign, Deutsche Bank was separately under investigation by the Justice Department for its role in the 2008 financial crisis.

Asked if delving into his and his family's finances unrelated to the Russian Federation probe would cross a red line, Trump replied, "I would say yeah".

"The investigation would surely continue, though perhaps with someone who doesn't think his job includes protecting the FBI and Mr. (James) Comey from answering questions about their role in the 2016 election".

TRUMP: I would say yeah.

"We have confirmed that the news reports that the Special Counsel had subpoenaed financial records relating to the president are false". None of Trump's outstanding debt comes from Deutsche's corporate side-the part of the bank that lends to most corporate customers.

"Deutsche Bank did not contact us regarding people connected with the Trump administration". Mueller also disclosed that he secured a guilty plea from George Papadopoulos, who was a junior foreign-policy adviser to the Trump campaign, for lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation about contacts with Russian operatives. Deutsche Bank went on to back several lucrative deals, including the financing of 40 Wall Street and the Trump World Tower near the United Nations.
