Candlelight vigil held for Mariah Woods, public visitation planned Wednesday

The body of a missing 3-year-old North Carolina girl was found in a creek less than a day after her mother's boyfriend was charged with hiding her body after knowing she didn't die of natural causes, authorities said. She said items have come from all over the country and from places such as Japan and the United Kingdom. The girl was reported missing November 27. No one has yet been charged directly for the toddler's death, but the sheriff says new charges could follow the completion of the autopsy report.

Mariah's body was found on December 3 in a creek in neighboring Pender Co., N.C. Woods' boyfriend, Earl Kimrey, told police Mariah got up around midnight and he told her to go back to bed.

Officials reported that more than 700 people volunteered Friday to help authorities find Mariah.

The arrest warrant said Kimrey obstructed justice by "removing Mariah Woods' body from the scene of her death, and did hide (the) death and body, knowing that (she) died from unnatural causes".
