Iraqi paramilitary group: US troops may become targets after US Jerusalem decision

On Wednesday, Donald Trump officially announced his decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, where he plans to relocate the US Embassy.

"Kashmiris across the valley will stage peaceful protests against the U.S. decision after the Friday prayers tomorrow", the separatists, under the banner of the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), said in a statement.

The US Ambassador was summoned to Iraq for making "protest" from the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Iraq, because of the unprecedented decision by trump, which he recognized Israel's capital Jerusalem.

Terming the USA decision "naive" and "dangerous" for worldwide peace, the separatists said these unilateral and anti-Muslim decisions were bound to deteriorate and damage the already fragile peace and tranquillity of the world.

"The US administration has to backtrack on this decision to stop any unsafe escalation that would fuel extremism and create conditions favorable to terrorism", it said. Though made up of Iraqis, it is loyal to Iran and is helping Tehran create a supply route through Iraq to Damascus. Being a part of the Iran-backed Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), the group is considered to be one of the most important militias in Iraq.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said Pres. Trump called him Tuesday to notify him of the embassy transfer. The PMF is government sanctioned and formally reports to Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi's office. Abbas says he warning the US president of the "dangerous consequences" of such a move on security, the peace process, and stability in the region.

Israel seized the largely Arab eastern sector of Jerusalem during the 1967 Six-Day War and later annexed it, claiming both sides of the city as its capital. Many countries in the Middle East view East Jerusalem as the only viable capital for a Palestinian state to co-exist peacefully with Israel.
