Whistleblower: Flynn texts broached nuclear plan, sanctions

Fired former national security advisor Mike Flynn exalted that a nuclear deal involving Russian Federation was "good to go" just minutes after President Trump took the oath of office, House Oversight panel Democrats said based on a whistleblower's claims.

In a reply late Wednesday, Gowdy declined, saying he shared Cummings' letter with Rep. Michael Conaway, R-Texas, and Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., the chairman and ranking Democrat heading the House intelligence committee inquiry into Russian involvement in the 2016 election.

Flynn had served as an adviser to two Washington-based companies pursuing efforts to build nuclear power plants in the Middle East: Copson's company, ACU Strategic Partners, which proposed a partnership with Russian interests, and IP3/IronBridge, which later began a separate endeavor that initially proposed working with China to build the infrastructure, according to federal documents and company officials.

As the president spoke, Flynn reportedly texted Copson that the nuclear project was "good to go", the witness said Copson told him.

In his letter, Mr. Cummings also said that his staff had been in consultations with Mr. Mueller's team, which brought the criminal charge against Mr. Flynn.

He also said he had not told Trump that he exchanged private messages with the WikiLeaks Twitter account, the sources said. The Washington Post has reported that the president dictated the statement Trump Jr. released that day about the meeting.

"This is going to make a lot of very wealthy people", Mr. Copson said.

"Our committee has credible allegations that President Trump's national security adviser sought to manipulate the course of worldwide nuclear policy for the financial gain of his former business partners", Cummings said.

Mr. Cummings sent the letter to the chairman of the House Oversight and Government Committee, Trey Gowdy, Republican of SC, and asked him to investigate the whistle-blower's claims.

Now, Mr Cummings wrote, he and his colleagues have been authorised to to go public with the information.

Cummings said the whistleblower, whom he did not identify in the letter, "fears retaliation", but would speak with Gowdy if he agrees to protect the whistleblower's identity. But the whistleblower says he or she could not read the actual message.

The whistleblower told Democrats that the associate had been informed by Flynn that the project was "good to go" and that the sanctions would be "ripped up".

"Our Committee has credible allegations that President Trump's National Security Advisor sought to manipulate the course of global nuclear policy for the financial gain of his former business partners", Cummings wrote.

Cummings said that the whistleblower's allegations raise concerns that Flynn improperly aided the nuclear project after joining the White House as one of Trump's top security officials.

The letter from Cummings concluded with a request to issue subpoenas for "all documents and communications referring or relating" to Flynn's foreign contacts during the Trump campaign, the transition period and his brief time as national security adviser. Mr. Cummings said that Mr. Gowdy should subpoena Mr. Flynn, Mr. Copson and four others to testify before the panel.

The letter was written to the new Oversight Committee chair, Republican Rep. Trey Gowdy of SC.
