Evacuation Orders Issued for almost 200k as Los Angeles Fires Rage

According to LAPD: Residents by Casiano Rd, Moraga, & Linda Flora in West Los Angeles being evacuated/are evacuated for the 405 brush fire.

The fire, which was entirely uncontained, was being whipped by unpredictable Santa Ana winds, which blow in from the California desert. The Skirball Fire is in mostly residential areas causing evacuation, and UCLA students were given the option to go to class.

"Strong winds overnight creating extreme fire danger". The wildfire started at 4am Tuesday and rapidly spread in the foothills of the Angeles National Forest, located above the neighborhood of Sylmar in the San Fernando Valley. As of late Wednesday, the Thomas fire had grown to 96,000 acres.

More than 230,000 people have had to leave their homes in Los Angeles and Ventura counties. "These are also days that show the resilience of our city".

The Getty Center was closed the day before the fire to prevent harm to its collection from smoke from existing fires in Los Angeles County.

The Santa Monica Malibu Unified School District closed all of its schools Wednesday and Thursday. The Skirball fire has burned more than 50 acres as Santa Ana winds continue to create risky conditions.

The wildfires sweeping through California have left countless homeowners and businesses scrambling as the blazes continue to grow out of control in various locations throughout the state.

The National Weather Service predicted "extremely critical fire weather", saying wind gusts could hit 70 miles per hour in some areas. The 101 remains open, but authorities warned drivers to be cautious traveling through the area. More than 125 firefighters are on the scene, and water-dropping helicopters are being deployed.

Firefighting resources were stretched in as other fires, including the Creek Fire and the Thomas Fire, raged on elsewhere in Southern California.

Rockets fired into Israel near Gaza strip
The IDF blasted back at Hamas positions in the Gaza Strip Thursday evening, following Palestinian rocket fire at Israel . A third rocket reportedly did reach Israeli territory, but landed in an open area and caused no harm or damage.
