Harassed by moral police, 20-year-old woman hangs self in Karnataka


The Superintendent of Police of Chickmagalur said that under IPC 306 a case was booked in Mudigere town police station.

Telling Suvarna to "control" her daughter, Santosh allegedly warned her that "embarrassing pictures" of Dhanyashree would be posted on social media.

According to media reports, Dhanyashree, a first-year student of B.Com, was hounded by youth activists affiliated with organisations such as the Bajrang Dal and the BJYM after she supposedly said on a WhatsApp group that she had a liking for people hailing from the Muslim community.
