Consumers have had a number of miniature high-capacity thumb drives to choose from.

The other world's smallest USB flash drive - the 256GB SanDisk Ultra Fit USB 3.1 Flash Drive has also been unveiled at CES 2018. At the CES 2018 the flash memory manufacturer has displayed the SanDisk smallest flash drive ever that supports the USB-C. Capacities are available from 250GB up to 2TB, with prices starting from $230 for low capacity, up to $800 for the 2TB drive. SanDisk has claimed that this flash drive is the most powerful USB type-C flash drive until now.

SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD features a 550MB/s read speed. It is likely that a M.2 SATA SSD is being used inside the new version. It is encased in a durable housing that is rated IP55, so it is both dust and water resistant and can work in extreme conditions. The Ultra Fit is now slouch in speed either, with 130MB/s read speeds over USB3.1 gen 1. The bundled Type-C cable also comes with a Type-A adapter, similar to what we saw in the WD My Passport SSD. It comes in the same capacity options, priced at $99.99 for 250GB, $169.99 for 500GB, $349.99 for 1TB, and $699.99 for 2TB. The wireless (802.11ac/n) aspect means you can edit, delete, and manage files from any mobile device, through something like a mobile app, or integrate directly with other apps that can access wireless storage devices for live editing in the field. A DLNA server is also integrated.

The Type-C USB standard is still in its transition period so not everyone is going to be happy with the switch from regular sized USB ports to a small one. Two portable SSDs have also been launched.
