BSNL jumps into data and validity revision game, update its prepaid plans

State-run telecom firm BSNL today extended validity of select prepaid mobile plans by 43 per cent and increased the data offered by 50 per cent, with an aim to counter Reliance Jio's latest offer.

This is a promotional offer from BSNL which will offer its customers 2GB of free 3G data with a validity of 30 days. With the new Rs. 399 pack, Airtel is now offering 1GB data per day, unlimited voice calls - local, STD, and roaming, 100 SMSs per day for all handset users. To start with the Rs 186 and Rs 187 plans, both of them now offers unlimited voice calls along with 1GB of data per day over a period of 28 days. The two Vodafone recharge packs also offer 1GB data per day, and are better positioned to take on the revised Jio plans with the extra data and validity.

All the plans will offer 100 SMSes per day.

Airtel on Monday had revised its plans to offer validity of 82 days with the Rs. 448 plan, up from 70 days. However, Jio's Rs. 199 pack provides 1.2GB 4G data per day while the Airtel's pack gives only 1GB data per day.

In comparison to Airtel, Reliance Jio with its Rs. 398 pack offers 1.5GB high-speed 4G data per day (after 1.5GB Jio offers unlimited data at 64Kbps). This is also the Happy New Year 2018 plan of Jio. The 509 plan of Jio offers 3GB data per day.

In the past, Airtel has launched competitive offers to take on Jio's continuing onslaught on tariff rates in India's telecom scene. This means users will get 84GB of data during the validity period, up from 70GB. For example, the Rs. 349 pack gives helps prepaid users with 2GB data daily, unlimited local, STD and roaming calls with 100 SMS per day.

Kenya Airways launches NY flights
The national carrier has over the past one year reorganised its routes in a bid to free up capacity to fly direct to the US. On Thursday, Kenya Airways began selling tickets for its new flight from its main hub in Nairobi to New York's John F.

The Rs. 458 plan offered 70-day validity till recently, but is now valid for 84 days. The data offered, just as that of Airtel and Jio, is 3G/4G.
