US wants Norwegians, not Haitian refugees, says Donald Trump


Haiti's ambassador to the United States has demanded U.S. officials explain President Donald Trump describing his country as a "s--hole".

Trump made the remark Thursday during a White House meeting after senators discussed revamping immigration rules.

He then reportedly suggested that the United States should instead bring more people from countries like Norway, whose prime minister he met on Wednesday.

The comments, first reported by The Washington Post, sparked anger among Democrats, and revived questions about Trump's tendency to make racially charged remarks.

On his CNN show AC360, Cooper, who reported live from Haiti during the devastating quake of 2010, didn't hold back any punches and described the quotes attributed to Trump as flatly "racist".

Love called on Trump to apologise to the American people and to the countries he denigrated.

Trump tweeted on Thursday that illegal immigration in the U.S. was at a 45-year low and said he was working to keep "foreign bad guys on foreign land".

He reportedly said, 'they [Haitians] all have AIDS.' And said Nigerians 'live in huts.' The White House denied he said those things at the time; three weeks ago. "The White House must immediately explain the situation and leave no doubt regarding what was said and in what context", he added.
