The Israeli forces have conducted an airstrike hitting a target in the southern Gaza Strip, the army's press service said Sunday.

Conricus said the tunnel destroyed Saturday was dug by key operatives of Hamas and was 1.5 km long, penetrating 180 km under the Kerem Shalom border crossing into Israel and into Egypt.

Similar clashes took place in 17 different locations within the West Bank, the IDF said, while also continuing efforts to catch the perpetrators of a terrorist attack which killed Rabbi Raziel Shevach on a West Bank road last Tuesday.

During the last Gaza war, in 2014, Hamas fighters used dozens of tunnels to blindside Israel's superior forces and threaten civilian communities near the frontier.
