Japan urges Suu Kyi to ensure Rohingya's safe return

Aung San Suu Kyi thanked Japan for its support after the country announced on Friday it would give a total of 23 million dollars, subject to parliamentary approval, for rehabilitation of refugees and improving humanitarian conditions in Rakhine State.

Myanmar's civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi has welcomed an unprecedented army admission that security forces carried out extra-judicial killings of Rohingya Muslims as a "positive step", state-backed media reported Saturday.

"I see it that way because a country needs to take responsibility for the rule of law in the country, and this is the first step on the road of taking responsibility and it is a positive thing", she said, according to a transcript of the news conference posted on her Facebook page.

Hawaii also recently started conducting tests of its nuclear attack siren for the first time since the end of the Cold War. Pacific Command, Dave Benham, told ABC News in a statement that no ballistic missile threat to Hawaii was detected.

Asked about the admission on Wednesday by Myanmar's military that its security forces and Buddhist villagers killed 10 captured Rohingya during clashes a year ago, Suu Kyi stressed the importance of the rule of law and said the military will take responsibility.

About 650,000 Rohingya have fled the western state of Rakhine and elsewhere to neighboring Bangladesh, the United Nations estimates, after an attack on police by extremist Rohingya militants in August set off a violent backlash.

Amnesty International has called the summary killings at Inn Din "the tip of the iceberg" in terms of atrocities carried out since August and urged a wider, impartial probe.

Myanmar refutes the allegations, blaming militants for causing the violence and the global media and aid agencies for spreading false information due to a pro-Rohingya bias.

Iran rejects Trump's call for changes to nuclear deal
On Friday, Trump said the United States would withdraw from the Iranian nuclear deal unless its "disastrous flaws" were fixed. A decision to withhold a waiver would have effectively ended the deal that limits Iran's nuclear program.

Many refugees start at transit centres set up along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border before they are brought to the main refugee camps in Cox's Bazar.
