Pakistan releases new video of "person of interest" in Zainab rape, murder

Local media reports say that police suspect that the man who raped and murdered Zainab is the same person who abducted, raped and murdered five other children in the city of Kasur in 2017.

Two people were killed by gunshot wounds as enraged protesters armed with sticks and stones attempted to storm the deputy commissioner's office and clashed with police.

The minor whose dead body was found from a garbage pile, went missing en route to her maternal aunt's house, which was minutes away from her home in Road Kot area.

Police believe she may have been held captive for between two and four days following her disappearance on January 4.

The murder has caused outrage in Pakistan, and violent mass protests have been shaking Kasur, located in Punjab province, for two days.

What's even more shocking is that at least 11 similar cases are reported to have taken place within a two kilometre radius in the city in the past year. Paramilitary forces were called to the city of Kasur near the Indian border, Punjab provincial police said. Businesses reopened, but police and paramilitary troops were still out in force and guarding government buildings.

It is worth mentioning that the area had been news in the past over rape of minors, the girl's murder was the 12th such incident reported in Kasur district alone in a year.

Zainab was kidnapped on her way to a Koran recital while her parents where in Mecca performing a religious pilgrimage.
