Redesigned Chevy Silverado pickup loses weight, gains size

Let the truck wars begin.

General Motors unveiled its redesigned 2019 Chevrolet Silverado full-size pickup truck in advance of the North American International Auto Show in Detroit on Saturday.

Weighing 450 pounds lighter than its predecessor, the Truck of Steel doubles down on the durable metal with a roll-formed (not stamped) high-strength bed, it boasts the biggest box in the segment - increasing width by seven inches and length by one inch over the current truck. The 2019 Silverado will be available with a power up/down tailgate that can be operated from the key fob, interior button or by hand. This is important marketing point given the literal beating Chevrolet has given the F-150's aluminum bed in its advertising, by dropping a load of rocks and a toolbox into one to depict how it can potentially be punctured more easily than steel.

Test our resolve: Pakistan warns after Army chief Rawat's 'nuclear bluff' remark
This all comes after Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Major General Asif Ghafoor reacted to Gen. Rawat's statement and said such statements were unbecoming of a person of his stature.

"The working end of every pickup is the bed". At that reveal, Chevrolet said they gathered feedback from 7,000 people when designing the new truck, which the company says is the most research it has ever done ahead of a new model. The new look is more truck-like than today's and features several variants within the 8 trim levels, including high-end material finishes.

Chevy will offer a diesel option for its light-duty truck. Each engine is paired to GM's new 10-speed automatic transmission. GM's oil-burner, made in-house, debuts in the Silverado.

Despite not having Trump's sign-off, the bipartisan group negotiating the agreement is pushing forward. From that point onward, roughly 1,000 people a day are expected to lose their protections.

Under its skin, the pickup uses more high-strength steel in its ladder frame for weight savings and a 10-percent stiffer body. Remarkably, it's also lighter, weighing 450 pounds (204 kg) less than today's truck when comparing crew cab V-8 models. In addition to its aluminum diet, Ford has committed to a turbocharged V-6 strategy to save fuel while increasing torque. This includes new 5.3L and 6.2L V-8s with industry-first Dynamic Fuel Management that actively shuts off any number of cylinders, in a variety of combinations, depending on immediate needs to optimize fuel economy.

"Our competition has downsized and boosted their engines", said Herrick. The off-road focused model builds the Z71 package and includes a two-inch suspension lift, a locking rear differential, and skid plates.

"Truck customers told us they want the flawless truck for them and not a "one size fits most" truck", said GM design boss Mike Simcoe. The truck is higher, taller and shorter than previous models.
