Sex offender's sentence delayed so he can finish university

Officials sentenced Connor Neurauter, 21, a student at the University of Calgary, to 90 days in prison, two years probation, and required the student to register as a sex offender, reported Fox News.

Kamloops This Week reported from the trial that Neurauter, a former junior hockey goaltender, obtained nude photos from the girl and threatened to show them to her family. We can confirm that Neurauter is not on the university campus this week.

University Provost Dru Marshall said the situation is complicated and hard, but the crime took place before Neurauter was enrolled as a student. Kaitlin Cassell, a student at the University of Calgary, started an online petition to get Neurauter expelled.

"On the other hand, expelling a student is a very serious matter and if that is not required for the safety of the students, that may be too harsh a penalty".

"We have heard and understand the concerns raised by the community inside and outside the university about him remaining a student here", read a statement from U of C provost Dru Marshall.

The university says it is committed to reviewing its sexual violence policy but is calling for a broader discussion involving Canadian universities to discuss potentially new or amended policies.

Mourinho Responds To Man Utd Links With Sanchez
City, responding to this, have ended their pursuit and it seems Manchester United are now the only interested team. Sanchez wants to be around players who are as good as him, maybe even some that he believes are better than him.

However, the statement goes on to state that Neurauter isn't now on campus.

The University of Calgary says a student who has been convicted of sexual interference would be escorted off campus if he tried to return and a student sexual assault prevention club says it's been working hard to respond to the emotional fallout of the controversy.

"It discourages victims from coming forward as perpetrators are accommodated and their actions are excused for the sake of not impeding their 'potential'".

Wayne MacKay, a law professor at Dalhousie University, said Neurauter's case leaves the University of Calgary in a tough predicament.

"They're saying they're concerned for him having a successful educational experience and that they won't be able to keep him safe". I was hoping for more.

The victim's mother wanted Neurauter expelled from the college.

"I'm the only person who went to court every time there was a court date, even if it was just to set a court date".

The administration made the comment Thursday in the face of a petition signed by a growing number of people that calls for the expulsion of Connor Neurauter.

And the U of C is discussing the possibility of distance learning with Neurauter, she said.

"This is a product of a culture that we live in that doesn't tend to respond adequately to acts of sexual violence", she said.

"He's very upset. He's trying to deal with it and work through it".

Neurauter's parents encouraged their son to take the plea bargain that included the delayed sentence, Susan Neurauter said, but added that she regrets it now that she's seen the reaction. "He's frustrated that he's missing school", said Neurauter.
