Former Donald Trump advisor Steve Bannon Tuesday refused to answer questions from a congressional committee probing the president's campaign links to Russian Federation, saying he was under orders from the White House not to.

Former White House strategist Steve Bannon was expected to be peppered with questions on the Trump campaign's links to Russian Federation in closed testimony to the House Intelligence Committee today.

This was later confirmed Wednesday by Axios which reported that Bannon "intends to fully cooperate with Mueller".

Citing "a person with direct knowledge of the matter", the Times reported that this the first time Mueller has used a grand jury subpoena. Bannon is testifying before the House Intelligence Committee today.

This is a developing story.

The subpoena came after Bannon's comments to author Michael Wolff became public, according to The New York Times. Of all the individuals connected to the case examining if Trump crossed lines by working with Russia, Bannon appears to be the only one of them to be served a subpoena. Trump responded to the allegation of treason by saying that "Sloppy Steve Bannon" had "lost his mind".

The special counsel investigation has so far netted indictments against four former members of Trump's inner circle during the 2016 presidential election.

Wolff, who painted a picture of an erratic and poorly informed president, was given substantial access to the White House during Trump's first year by Bannon.

Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon's lawyer informed the White House, in real time, what questions lawmakers on the House Intelligence Committee were asking his client.

As reported in Fire and Fury, Bannon believes that the road to Trump's undoing will not run through Russian Federation but with financial impropriety.

The decision to subpoena Bannon could also be a sign that Mueller's investigation is growing more intense.

Dershowitz stressed on "America's Newsroom" that the White House cannot assert executive privilege over matters that happened in the campaign; it can only assert executive privilege on things that occurred after Trump took office. Cobb said he believes these pleas and indictment will not impact the president. He also said that he would not answer questions about the transition team.
