Karnataka Lokayukta Vishwanatha Shetty Stabbed Multiple Times in Office, Attacker Arrested


In a shocking incident, the lokayukta of Karnataka, Justice P. Vishwanath Shetty, was stabbed multiple times in his office in Bangalore on Wednesday afternoon, NDTV has reported. "The attacker has been identified as one Tejas Sharma and he has been arrested from the crime scene". He reportedly attacked Justice Shetty as soon as he entered his cabin, oneIndia reported.

The Lokayukta was stabbed two to three times after which he fell to the floor bleeding.

The incident has raised major concerns over the security in the Lokayukta office and a probe is under way.

"His allegations were not proved", said T Suneel Kumar, Commissioner of Police Bengaluru.

Chief minister Siddaramaiah who visited the hospital later, said that while the injuries suffered by the judge were grievous, doctors have announced that he is "out of danger".

Reports quoting sources said the attack was allegedly in retaliation to the Lokayukta's dismissal of a case the attacker had filed against a government official in the past. Initial investigations revealed that the metal detector detector in the Lokayukta office building was not functioning, Kumar said.
