US Steel to bring back 500 workers in Granite City

The Granite City Works plant will begin firing up one of its two blast furnaces this month.

The plant has been idle since late 2015.

US Steel Corp says it will soon restart a blast furnace in IL that has been cold for over two years thanks to the 25% tariff on imported steel announced by President Trump last week, Politico reports. It's a process that could take three to four months.

"This will absolutely lead to layoffs", Miller said, explaining that US producers do not make the steel slabs he needs to supply sheet steel to customers like Caterpillar Inc CAT.N and automakers.

Florida school shooting suspect Nikolas Cruz withdraws not guilty plea
Scott told reporters he would "review the bill line by line" and consult with victims' families before deciding his position. Meanwhile, the 19-year-old former student accused of opening fire at the school made his initial appearance before a judge.

"Our Granite City Works facility and employees, as well as the surrounding community, have suffered too long from the unending waves of unfairly traded steel products that have flooded USA markets", said U. S. Steel President and Chief Executive Officer David B. Burritt.

Trading partners around the world expressed dissatisfaction with President Donald Trump's steel and aluminum tariffs proposal, with many implicitly and explicitly indicating they would retaliate if the tariffs are imposed.

Steel suppliers like California Steel Industries Inc CAST.UL , which imports 1.5 million tons of steel slabs annually, argue that Trump's bid to save USA steel jobs will cost them.

"We've had a lot of news that hasn't been good for so long", said Mike DeBruce, owner of the Park Grill, which backs up to the steel plant.

FIR filed against Mohammad Shami, family members
Jahan also revealed that many of Shami's relatives had attempted to contact her after she filed a complaint with the police. Following Hasin Jahan's allegations against her husband, the BCCI has put his annual contract on hold.

The company expects to provide information on the anticipated financial impact of the restart as more details on the President's executive order become available for analysis in the coming days.

"Our Granite City Works facility and employees, as well as the surrounding community, have suffered too long from the unending waves of unfairly traded steel products that have flooded U.S. markets", said U.S. Steel President and CEO David Burritt.

All that's now running at the mill are the pickle line, cold mill and finishing lines.

"Perhaps no steel town in the country is as closely identified with its mill as the town of Granite City is with the historic Granite City Works".
