Southwest Airlines flight from Phoenix makes emergency landing


A Southwest Airlines flight had to make an emergency landing in New Mexico on Sunday night after smoke was reported in the main cabin of the aircraft. Two people were brought to hospital, the fire department said.

Passengers said they could feel heat from the vents shortly before the crew said the plane was going to make an emergency landing.

Media reports described a smoke-filled cabin.

Fire officials in Albuquerque tweeted that two people were injured and taken to a hospital.

Southwest flight 3562 had departed Phoenix Sky Harbor airport, bound for Dallas Love Field. The Captain declared an emergency to receive priority handling from air traffic controllers after deviating from the filed flight plan. The exact nature or extent of their injuries are not yet known.
