Trey Burton to the Bears

NFL Network first reported the deal.

Just a few hours after landing wide receiver Allen Robinson, the Bears decided they needed to upgrade the tight end position, which was odd considering they spent a second-round pick on Adam Shaheen just previous year. He caught just three passes in his first two seasons but evolved into one of the NFL's top backup tight ends over the past two years, with a combined 60 catches for 575 yards and six touchdowns.

The former Philadelphia Eagles tight end, who threw a touchdown in the team's victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII, will sign a four-year, $32-million contract with the Chicago Bears.

Burton, 26, was signed by the Eagles as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2014. Robinson once had a 1,400-yard season in which he led the league in touchdowns while catching passes from Blake the age of 22. Though Philadelphia valued Burton's versatility and contributions to the offseason in a limited role, the former Florida Gator performed well enough last season to earn a lucrative contract on the open market.

But the Bears want Burton for his receiving ability, not his passing ability.
