'Open revolt' at the State Department over Tillerson dismissal, reporter says


She was picked as nominee for the top Central Intelligence Agency job when President Trump named Mr Pompeo as Secretary of State to replace Rex Tillerson.

The truth is that Tillerson never should have been put in that position in the first place.

Tillerson was frequently at odds with the mercurial president and Trump said that while he and Tillerson got along "quite well" they "disagreed on things", notably the Iran nuclear deal.

"This is insane. I might actually get my dream job", Pompeo quipped, according to two sources familiar with his comments.

"It's much better for Japan to have someone ... who shares similar views with President Trump" than someone who has friction with him, like Tillerson. "I wanted to break it or do something, and he felt a little bit differently".

As news of Donald Trump's upset victory flashed across the TV screen in front of him in November 2016, Mike Pompeo watched in astonishment.

He said he would delegate all authority to Deputy Secretary John Sullivan, who will serve as acting secretary until Pompeo is confirmed.

"What is most important is to ensure an orderly and smooth transition during a time that the country continues to face significant policy and national security challenges, " he said.
