He was born December 3, 1935, in Ridgely, Tennessee, to Barney and Pauline James Riggs. She married Howard J. Adams on August 5, 1942, in Wayland, Missouri. James and his wife Betty moved to Kentucky Lake after retirement to enjoy fishing and gardening. She received her early education in Banner County schools in Harrisburg, graduating from Banner County High School.

Violet "Vi" Mae Mescher, age 95, of Dubuque, was called home peacefully at 6 p.m., on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at Bethany Home, surrounded by her loving family.

McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson, Tennessee, is in charge of arrangements. She met Buddy (Murray) Rippe while he was stationed in Kentucky.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Curtis of Champaign; two children, Michael A. Curtis and Deborah A. Curtis, both of Champaign; five grandchildren; brother, Edgar Curtis of Springfield; and two sisters, Lola Bryant and Nora McCurly, both of Springfield. There will be no public service.
