Mayor Kenney visits Meek Mill in prison, backs his release

Mill is now serving a two- to four-year prison sentence for violating his parole stemming from a gun and drugs charge back in 2008. After the meeting, Kraft told reporters that Mill doesn't belong in jail and pushed for criminal justice reform.

There's been some outcry against Mill's punishment, with critics claiming the length of his sentence is too severe for probation violations.

Now, the #FreeMeekMill movement is getting the mayor involved as well.

Kraft was joined by Michael Rubin, owner of the Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Devils, who has always been vocal in his support for Mill's release. Rubin is a vocal supporter of the #FreeMeekMill movement himself. Afterward, Kraft called for reform of the criminal justice system. Krasner also said he had no issue with Mill's being released while the appeal was litigated.

Meek Mill continues to sit behind bars while he serves a two-to-four year prison sentence, but the Philadelphia rapper recently got to speak with Lester Holt of NBC Nightly News about his legal situation and his plans to help minorities when he's released.

In addition to the incest charge, Steven and Katie were charged with two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. As a condition of his bond, he was no longer allowed to live at that location or have contact with his daughter or their son.

"I know some of our players in the National Football League have talked about this, and I see firsthand that it's just wrong", Kraft told reporters following his visit.

"Amazing young man. I know how I'd feel if I was in the situation he is", the 76-year-old Kraft said of Mill. "Every time I see him, I just come away more impressed". This is just sad. "Our criminal justice system is in need of fix".

However, with the news of a Season 3 renewal for Jessica Jones , that doesn't look to be the case.at least for now. Hopefully, it won't take as long as it did - over two years between first and second season - last time around.
