Opposition leaders and rescuers say more than 40 people, including many women and children, died in the suspected chemical attack.

Canada became the latest to lay the blame for a deadly chemical-weapons attack in Syria last week at Syrian President Bashar Assad's doorstep, despite Russian suggestions to the contrary.

The report says Syria's air defenses confronted the missiles near Homs, and says the airstrikes also targeted an army depot there.

"More than 100 cruise missiles and air-to-land missiles were fired by the US, Britain and France from the sea and air at Syrian military and civilian targets", the ministry said in a statement quoted by RIA Novosti news agency, adding that "a significant number" were shot down by Syrian air defences. Witnesses on the ground in Damascus reported hearing explosions in the Syrian capital, where more than a million people live. Al-Alam Arabic TV displayed scenes of public gathering in support of the government in the streets of Warzah in Damascus near an attack site.

Russia is convening an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss the actions by the United States and its allies, which carried out missile strikes on Syria on Saturday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

The anti-apartheid fighter died on April 2 at 81, in Johannesburg, and was buried with honors as head of state on April 7. Ramaphosa told her that night: "Mama‚ thank you for bringing‚ as you have always done‚ various people together".

Russia's Defense Ministry was quoted as saying by Russian news agencies that Syria intercepted the US and allied attacks using Soviet-produced hardware, including the Buk missile system.

"This collective action sends a clear message that the global community will not stand by and tolerate the use of chemical weapons", May said at a press conference, calling the military action "right and legal". The targets of that strike included Syrian aircraft, aircraft shelters, petroleum and logistical storage facilities, ammunition supply bunkers, air defense systems and radar.

"We can not allow the use of chemical weapons to become normalised - either within Syria, on the streets of the United Kingdom or elsewhere", May said.

Its foreign ministry said: "We welcome this operation which has eased humanity's conscience in the face of the attack in Douma".

Russian Federation reacted to the air strikes saying that once again they were being threatened and such actions by the U.S. will not be excused.

Left-back Rose picked up the minor problem after playing 90 minutes against Stoke, though his absence is not expected to be lengthy.

It said three civilians were wounded in the Homs attacks but did not give a toll for Damascus or mention any combatant casualties.

In April 2017, the United States struck an airbase in Syria using cruise missiles.

French President Emmanuel Macron said the response was "limited to the Syrian regime's capabilities to produce and use chemical weapons".

- The US said "important infrastructure" had been destroyed, resulting in the loss of years of research and development for the Syrian regime.

The move comes after days of warnings by the US president to the Assad regime and its supporter, the government of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

France is reported to be one of the strongest backers of a possible strike which Russian Federation strongly opposes. Russian Federation also could fire at the launch platforms used - potentially USA planes or ships.
