This will also allow the iPhone to fall in the same price segment as a OnePlus phone or some Samsung phones.

The iPhone SE, which is Apple's most affordable iPhone in India, has been locally assembled since May a year ago.

According to the latest info from Economic Times, Wistron, Apple's production partner has set up a new assembly line for the iPhone 6s Plus, so the phablet will start getting mass produced in a couple of weeks. The Indian government announced a 10 percent customs duty on circuit boards, camera modules, connectors, and other parts.

Intelligence and open source accounts indicated that the Syrian government was behind the attack on Saturday, according to the PM. He tweeted: "I firmly support the military action taken in Syria".

Recent Counterpoint research revealed that the iPhone 6 series contributes to nearly one-third of total sales of iPhones in India in 2017, as compared to less than 15 percent generated from iPhone SE, the only Apple smartphone model to be locally assembled in the Wistron plant till now.

By manufacturing locally, this would help Apple cut prices by 5-7 percent, according to the report, if the company were to make all iPhone 6S Pluses sold in the Indian market domestically.

It's only when the local manufacturing plan "gains scale" will the buyers see a price correction. In terms of taxes, the Indian government raised tariffs on smartphones from 15 to 20 percent in February, which forced Apple to seek new measure to drop its prices and stay competitive.

Though Apple has made a decision to assemble iPhone 6s in India, there are no plans for the company to start building their new devices in India anytime soon. Industry executives said Apple has also started discussion with its component vendors and contract manufacturers like Flex, Foxconn and Wistron to expand local sourcing, including components.

The tech giant has reportedly expanded its local sourcing initiative to two more parts in India, which now includes chargers, adapters and packaging boxes. This would bring the price of the iPhone 6s to the same level as that of the One Plus.
