The arrest of Senger comes a day after Uttar Pradesh police virtually gave a clean chit to the MLA despite booking him for rape saying that there was not "enough evidence" against him. Earlier in the day, the Allahabad High Court's bench comprising of Justice DB Bhosale and Justice Suneet Kumar had directed the CBI to arrest Sengar. Murder charges could be added in the course of the investigation, he added. Subsequently, the victim's father was booked by the police under the Arms Act on April 3 and put in jail on April 5.

The Allahabad High Court took up suo motu cognisance of the case on Wednesday and on Thursday took a strong notice of the delay in the accused MLA's arrest.

The final report can either be a closure report or a chargesheet.
