Prosecutors in Pennsylvania have been now retrying Cosby on fees he drugged and mistreated 4 5, Andrea Constand, in his suburban Philadelphia home in 2014.

The entertainer came under fire past year during his first trial by openly leering as Constand fully recounted, in graphic detail, her memory of the alleged assault. He said he was given seven prescriptions for the now-banned sedative, ostensibly for a sore back.

The defense attorneys said the woman used to come to Cosby's house late at night and called him twice on Valentine's Day, a month after her alleged assault.

At the retrial, Cosby's new lawyer, Tom Mesereau, has called Constand a "con artist" who baited Cosby by feigning romantic interest in him and wound up with a $3.4 million civil settlement after she levelled a false claim of sexual molestation.

Prosecutors are building to the conclusion of their case against Cosby with investigators and a pharmaceutical expert expected to take the stand beginning Tuesday.

But Mesereau, who's best known for winning Michael Jackson an acquittal in his 2005 child molestation case, was incredulous as Constand denied being aware that Cosby was sexually attracted to her - even after he touched her thigh on one occasion and tried unbuttoning her trousers on another.

Andrea and Gianna Constand's testimony followed that of five additional accusers who told jurors that Cosby had drugged and assaulted them two decades earlier. After asking a question about her thoughts on Constand's job status and financial situation while at Temple, Gianna Constand said, "I'm here to discuss the incident that happened".

Phone records show Constand, the former director of women's basketball operations at Temple University, made brief calls to Cosby around the time of a Temple home game on February 14, 2004, the month after the alleged assault.

"Did you ever fabricate a scheme to falsely accuse him for money?"

She began to slur her words and became very weak, she testified, and Cosby guided her to a sofa as she went in and out of consciousness.

At the time, she was director of operations for the women's basketball team at Temple University, the entertainer's alma mater.

He provided her with professional connections, and she thanked him by buying him Temple gear, such as hats, T-shirts and sweatshirts, she testified. "This isn't about money".

Cosby, 80, faces three counts of aggravated indecent assault, each punishable by 10 years in prison.

Andrea Constand has accused Cosby of drugging and molesting her at his suburban Philadelphia home in 2004. She said he described how he had touched Andrea Constand's breasts and vagina and guided her hand to his penis. "And he said he was a sick man, and it took Andrea to stop him", the feisty mom testified.

Mesereau pointed out that one of her calls to Cosby was made on Valentine's Day in 2004. Her testimony prompted Cosby, sitting with his lawyers at the defence table, to open his eyes wide.

Ms Constand is one of about 50 women to have accused Cosby of assault dating back as far as 1965; however, her case is the only one recent enough to satisfy statute of limitations. The testimony was also included at his first trial, which ended with a hung jury past year.

In the first week of Cosby's retrial, a topless protester launched herself at him, with the names of the accusers painted across her body. His line of questioning implied Constand was only pretending to be a victim and the sexual interaction was, in fact, consensual. Cosby settled the case for about $3.4 million.

Andrea Constand said under cross-examination Monday that her phone calls to Cosby were about basketball.

The defence plans to call as a witness a former Temple administrator, Marguerite Jackson, to testify that before Constand lodged her allegations against Cosby in 2005, Constand had mused to her about setting up a "high-profile person" and filing suit. Jackson has said that she and Constand worked closely together, had been friends and had shared hotel rooms several times.

O'Neill said he was anxious he'd have to wait to have the procedure during the week, delaying testimony and keeping sequestered jurors in their hotel longer.
