More than a dozen students at Oakcrest Thursday joined children and teenagers from all over the country to recognize National Children's Mental Health Awareness Day to support better access to mental health care and education on mental illness. The National Alliance on Mental Illness reports that 1 in 5 adults in the US experiences mental illness in a given year, and almost 1 in 25 adults in the USA lives with a serious mental illness, while approximately 1 in 5 teens (ages 13 to 18) experiences a severe mental disorder at some point during their life.
