Aston Martin is dropping its flagship DB11 V12 in favour of a more powerful race-inspired version of the auto, the new DB11 AMR grand tourer.

Premiere 630-horsepower coupe was held in the framework of the opening of the technical center AMR Performance Center at the Nurburgring.

The AMR is rated to launch from 0 to 60 in just 3.7 seconds, or 0.2 seconds faster than the V-12, and with a top speed of 208 miles per hour, it will not only become the fastest model in Aston's current line-up but, the British marque claims, one of the fastest GT models in the world.

The 5.2-liter V12 gets a 30-hp bump in the AMR over the standard issue DB11.

Not only does that ensure the hottest DB11 now has 127bhp of breathing space compared with the entry-level AMG V8-powered vehicle, it also provides the DB11 AMR with muscle to worry its archrivals, including the 626bhp Bentley Continental GT W12 and 621bhp V12 Mercedes-AMG S65.

Along the way, Aston Martin is promising a more engaging, vocal exhaust note. According to Aston, the new exhaust is more vocal than the base vehicle and shows more character when you're in sport mode.
