Democratic Sen. Bob Casey will face U.S. Rep. Lou Barletta in November.

That's not exactly a huge margin for Barletta, a longtime congressman who had the explicit endorsement of the President - and who spent almost $2 million on the race to just $250,000 for Christiana.

Casey, who has been in the Senate since 2007, is one of 10 Senate Democrats up for reelection in a Trump state. These results are unlikely to calm their nerves. Trump touted Barletta as a "great guy" at a Pennsylvania rally earlier this year, and endorsed him in February.

While Republicans focus on primaries in the Senate and gubernatorial races, Democrats have keeping a close eye on races they see as key in their efforts to win back the House of Representatives.

Republicans are also choosing their party's challengers to Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf and to U.S. Sen.

Barletta reminded the audience that he was one of the first to rally behind Trump's presidential campaign, ignoring skeptics who said he was "crazy".

Casey, 58, who was running unopposed for his party's nomination, captured 697,867 votes according to the unofficial tally - more votes than Barletta and Christiana combined. Both districts voted for Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential election.

Ward won out after largely leading the night, garnering more than 70 percent of the vote in the district.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee congratulated Barletta on the win.

Farther west in OR, incumbent Democratic Gov. Kate Brown drew a pair of primary challengers but was expected to advance to the general election.

The GOP controls the Senate 51 to 49. The victor will face an uphill battle against the two-term incumbent Casey and Fox News' current projections show the seat is likely to remain in Democratic hands.

The new congressional district map imposed by the state Supreme Court has encouraged lots of Democrats to run in this region for Congress.

For now, Casey holds a large cash advantage over Barletta, $9.9 million to $1.3 million as of April 25. Pat Toomey won by fewer than 2 percentage points.
